Armed Protective Security Officers (PSO), DHS/FPS - Silver Spring, MD
BTI Security is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Armed Protective Security Officers (PSO) for the Department of Homeland Security/Financial Protection Services in Silver Spring, MD. The role includes first‑response to emergencies, enforcement, patrol, inspections, and access control, ensuring the protection of government property and personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Adhere to all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties safely.
- Follow the responsibilities outlined in Post Orders.
- Arrive on duty in proper uniform and with all issued equipment.
- Participate in guard mount, receive assigned posts, and record any extra instructions.
- Use provided communication devices (two‑way radio, etc.) clearly and concisely.
- Provide personal escort services for designated personnel, visitors, etc., when directed by the COR.
- Conduct personnel, vehicle, building & facility checks, and inspect packages and parcels.
- Carry a firearm license/permit on person while on duty (unless local or state law requires the contractor to maintain the records).
- Maintain hourly logs, detailed reports, and files of all incidents and occurrences during the tour of duty.
- Provide detailed reports on daily activities and any incidents that may have occurred.
- Operate magnetometers and X‑ray machines effectively.
- Ensure credentials are maintained per contract requirements.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain a customer‑service–driven mindset.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, if needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Project Manager.
- Two (2) years of armed security experience; two (2) years in the military or one (1) year in law enforcement.
- Strong relevant knowledge of the security industry.
- Valid Security Guard Card.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present information to all levels of internal and external customers.
- PSOs must be physically able to perform required tasks.
- Frequent and prolonged walking, standing, sitting, and stooping up to 12 hours per day.
- Frequent contact with the general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center requiring clear communication and composure under stress.
- Remain on post for up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or receiving a break.
- Remain alert for up to 12 hours, reacting quickly to unexpected and dangerous situations.
- Subdue violent or potentially violent individuals or intervene in a crisis.
- Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights, moving heavy objects, and climbing stairs.
- Associate’s Degree
