ABOUT
THE ROLE
Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Utility Operator to support the operations in the Asphalt division in Clinton, MD. The Utility Operator is responsible for supporting daily operations in the Asphalt Division by operating the fuel truck, maintaining and servicing heavy equipment, and performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs.
This role is also responsible for diagnosing equipment issues, assisting with mechanical repairs, fueling and lubricating equipment, and helping ensure all asphalt equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational.
- Operate and maintain utility equipment and vehicles supporting daily asphalt operations.
- Operate a fuel truck to safely transport and dispense fuel to company equipment as needed; must have a valid CDL to operate the fuel truck.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on heavy equipment used in asphalt operations.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues with heavy equipment and assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
- Maintain and service asphalt paving equipment, including checking fluid levels, filters, belts, hoses, and other components.
Safely fuel, lubricate, and service heavy equipment at job sites and company facilities. - Monitor equipment condition and promptly report major mechanical issues or repair needs to supervisors
- Assist mechanics and equipment operators with equipment repairs, maintenance, and minimizing downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable regulations while operating vehicles, handling fuel, and performing equipment maintenance.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required | Completion of a technical, vocational, or trade program in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or a related field is preferred. - Required Licesnse:
Minimum CDL Class B with required endorsements (Ability to operate both a manual and an automatic transmission) - Required
Work Experience:
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in heavy equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, utility operations, or a related field. - Proven experience maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting heavy equipment in asphalt, construction, or a related industry.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and identify equipment issues quickly and accurately.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, and basic to intermediate equipment repairs.
- Valid CDL required with the ability to safely operate a fuel truck as needed.
- Knowledge of safe fuel handling, fueling procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and equipment schematics to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining equipment in safe, reliable operating condition.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize maintenance needs, and respond effectively to equipment breakdowns in the field.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with mechanics, operators, supervisors, and other Asphalt Division personnel.
