Supervisor, Ultrasound oversees the day-to-day activities of the Ultrasound area.
I. Major Responsibilities- 1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.
- 2. Recommends and assists in managing budgets for the areas managed.
- 3. Coordinates the assignment of tasks for the efficient utilization of available resources.
- 4. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation.
- 5. Obtains scans per physician orders in an efficient, timely manner, according to departmental policy and procedures.
- 6. Prepares, utilizes and operates ultrasound equipment, supplies and rooms according to departmental policies and procedures.
- 7. Follows sterile techniques according to hospital policy.
- 8. Checks equipment for proper functioning prior to patient examination.
- 9. Greets patients politely and efficiently.
- 10. Clearly explains procedures to patients in English and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
- 11. Seeks out Interpreter Services if needed.
- 12. Gathers and records patient history. Assesses patient's ability to withstand procedure.
- 13. Obtains, reviews and completes patient consent forms prior to starting procedures.
- 14. Perform sonographic examinations using equipment and techniques specific to the modality, anatomy, pathology, physiology and area of interest requested. Positions patient on examining table to ensure a quality diagnostic image is produced.
- 15. Monitors video display of area being scanned and adjusts density or contrast to improve picture quality.
- 16. Reviews and evaluates images or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- 17. Dates, labels and marks images accurately and sends to PACS according to departmental policy.
- 18. Records, processes and maintains patient data.
- 19. Presents cases to a radiologist for review.
- 20. Follows all Quality Control policies and procedures for compliance with departmental, local, state and federal regulations.
- 21. Collaborates with other medical team and administrative staff members, such as physicians and nurses, to conduct special procedures or complete administrative duties.
- 22. Arranges for scheduled maintenance and minor emergency repairs on ultrasound equipment, or informs manager of problems with equipment or supplies.
- 23. Performs all duties with strict adherence to and compliance with government regulations, hospital policies and procedures, and safety guidelines.
- 24. Responsible for overseeing that all staff credentials are up to date. Maintains documentation for continuing education credits, CPR and other training, registration and licensure.
- 25. Rotates through call schedule as required.
- 26. Meets established productivity standards.
- 27. Facilitates and promotes the sharing of knowledge and content throughout departments.
- 28. Takes responsibility for ensuring that all work outcomes satisfy the UMass Memorial Health System True North.
- 29. The individual must support the mission, vision, and goals of Health Alliance-Clinton Hospital and serve as a role model for CARES values.
