Summary:

The Grinder inspects products as they are produced, removing defective pieces and providing finishing touches by hand. May require completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in the area of specialty. Commitment to and support of the Company Core Values are key to success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect machinery and work pieces to ensure compliance with specifications and reduce malfunctions.
  • Ensure grinding wheels are dressed according to specifications to maintain peak machine capability.
  • Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make adjustments promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Provide quality control by inspecting work pieces as they come out of the equipment and removing any defective pieces.
  • Operate polishing and grinding equipment to grind metal work pieces to prescribed specifications for high-quality products.
  • Finish products by hand using hand tools to ensure surfaces are filed or finished appropriately.
  • Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication, cleaning, and scheduling repairs when needed.
  • Identify potential issues and recommend corrective action measures.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation required with the order.
  • Meet customer requirements by following work instructions, including work orders and specification sheets.
  • Operate equipment independently and safely while meeting required quality standards.
  • Follow company personnel and product safety requirements.
  • Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Uphold the company core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is a lead but has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices of the trade.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Adaptability to a changing work environment and competing demands.
  • Knowledge and experience necessary for the position.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to read drawings and inspect the work being performed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Stand, walk, sit, and use hands/fingers continuously; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Lift or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; repetitive hand/wrist activities.
  • Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision required; ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Computer skills sufficient to log in and out of ERP and payroll time tracking software.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED; or 1 year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to speak and understand basic safety and manufacturing instructions.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract up to four decimal places; multiply and divide with tens and hundreds.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense to carry out detailed but unobligated instructions; deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
