CNC Machinist II
The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist II role produces precision machine components to engineering specifications. The CNC Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating one or more types of computer numeric controlled production equipment using approved programs. The CNC Machinist II will make minor changes to fixturing and/or offsets ensuring components meet specifications. They may set up and train CNC Machinist I to ensure setup and team members achieve acceptable first piece.
This position plays a crucial role ensuring our custom-made parts are ready for the production floor at the highest quality, while maintaining the safety and quality standards upheld by company procedures and guidelines. Essential duties and responsibilities include performing all work in a manner that is safe for you and fellow team members and is compliant with Vitesse System safety policies, following all quality procedures, work instructions, and documents pertaining to your job and department, logging in to job operation promptly after assignment and logging out upon completion including quantity completed, verifying that all company and personal inspection equipment and tools being used are in calibration, keeping the machine and the immediate area clean, verifying sufficient stock issued to job, cleaning the chips from machine at the end of your shift, or when the job is finished, verifying that material and paperwork for the job being performed is correct, following machine warm-up and cool-down protocols at beginning of the day and between jobs, verifying that there are no chips on either the jaws/fixture or on the part/material to be machined, loading the part/material, verifying that the part is properly seated in the fixture/jaws, snug against any stop pins prior to clamping or tightening of the jaws, unloading parts from the machine, deburring and removing FOD, inspecting all finished products for precision and accuracy to part drawing & workmanship specifications to ensure product quality and uphold company reputation, identifying non-conformance, if discovered, notifying your supervisor so that it can be documented identified, dispositioned, and segregated from the remainder of the lot, identifying discrepant material left in your work area, notifying your supervisor so that it can be dispositioned and segregated prior to the next job, performing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks to ensure machine longevity, including lubrication, cleaning, and tool replacement, notifying supervisor immediately of any problems or safety concerns preferably before or any point during an operation or work activity, setting part fixture in machine, tram and zero out datum according to program and/or setup sheet, selecting tooling from program and/or setup sheets and setting heights of cutting tools, loading tools into machine per program sequence and setting offsets, walking part through program checking features as the program runs and making appropriate adjustments to bring the part in specification sufficient to submit first piece, maintaining a clean and organized work area, performing all functions of the job while adhering to established quality policies and procedures, upholding the company core values, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include the knowledge and experience necessary for the position, the ability to operate the various machines within the department with minimal instruction, excellent attention to detail, the ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints and specifications, the ability to inspect the parts they are machining, the ability to measure with vernier caliper, micrometers and height gauges, the ability to follow instructions and procedures and work with minimal supervision, strong communication, both written and oral and problem-solving skills, the ability to adapt to a changing work environment and competing demands, and excellent problem-solving skills.
