Holidays – every other holiday (Sunday through Saturday);
Weekends – every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday); 24‑hour shifts; 3‑night shift, 8 hours

Position SummaryThe Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overall coordination of nursing services during an assigned off‑shift (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays). Duties include ensuring efficient patient placement and flow, communicating with Nurse Managers, and serving as an administrative, clinical, and educational resource to the patient care staff.
Major Responsibilities- Direct all bed management and bed placement activities.
- Actively manage patient flow to reduce boarding time in ED.
- Monitor the quality of nursing services and receive reports throughout the shift.
- Perform rounds to assure efficient patient flow and safe patient care.
- Address and resolve urgent concerns and patient/family complaints; notify appropriate Nurse Manager.
- Coordinate transition of operations upon shift changes; provide reports to incoming Nurse Supervisor.
- Ensure proper staffing; coordinate with Nurse Managers to determine optimal staff allocation per unit; review schedules and manage absences.
- Provide advice and counsel on emergencies, medical management, crisis and behavior management.
- Lead response to emergency situations, coordinating with engineering, maintenance and security.
- Maintain knowledge of trends and techniques in nursing and specialized areas applicable to the hospital.
- Direct staff response to emergencies such as severe weather, fire, etc.
- Notify Nursing Managers of staff learning needs; assist in performance evaluations.
- Administer appropriate personnel action for urgent discipline issues.
- Operate electronic staffing and scheduling system.
- Utilize electronic solutions including time and attendance, productivity reporting, and acuity modules.
- Coordinate replenishment of supplies during the shift.
- Participate in process improvement and system improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a resource for staff related to the electronic time and attendance system.
- Serve as a super‑user for various systems including the electronic medical record.
- Meet established productivity standards.
- Facilitate and promote knowledge sharing across departments.
- Ensure all work outcomes satisfy the True North values.

- Graduate of a recognized school of nursing;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience with demonstrated team‑leader skills.
- Strong supervisory, problem‑solving, planning, and organization skills.
- Proficiency in computer‑based nurse scheduling systems and standard business office applications (e.g., MS Office).
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required (other equivalent education/experience may qualify). ACLS certification required.
