Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:00 pm (40 hours)

Role: Nurse Manager – responsible for 24‑hour planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the clinical and administrative performance of assigned unit(s). Facilitates collaboration with medical and administrative leadership to assure patient needs are met and evaluates nursing care and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities Clinical Practice, Patient Flow, Patient Experience
  • Lead with high-reliability principles framework with a goal of zero harm.
  • Maintain a positive work environment that is safe for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Accountable for clinical practice and deployment of resources at the unit level to ensure ongoing implementation of nursing process and adherence to standards.
  • Conduct daily patient care rounds, assessing patient care requirements and monitoring nursing and ancillary staff performance to achieve safe, cost‑effective and quality patient care.
  • Direct the oversight of clinical practice through continuity of nursing assignments to optimize the patient plan of care.
  • Ensure the nursing process is utilized for each patient and a plan of care is established, coordinated, and delivered to each patient and family.
  • Create and sustain a collaborative, patient‑focused environment supporting excellence in clinical and service practices.
  • Ensure efficient daily operations of assigned unit(s), including staffing levels, equipment and supplies, bed and examination room management, workflow and productivity to meet patient needs.
  • Implement nursing standards, policies and procedures.
  • Hold multidisciplinary rounds for team‑lead review of care plans on the unit with providers, nursing, and ancillary team.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards including JC and DPH.
  • Ensure unit‑based standards of care conform to departmental, organizational, and compliance‑related standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of current professional/clinical issues and practices through participation in professional organizations and certification in the field of nursing.
  • Demonstrate and role‑model principles of ethical professional nursing practice.
  • Participate in Nursing Staff Organization, a shared governance model of practice, through membership in the nursing leadership council. Represent the department of nursing in committees and task‑force activities throughout the medical center.
  • Coordinate team huddles during the day and evening to review new admissions, patient progression toward goals and discharge plans. Report significant huddle outcomes to unit‑director.
  • Accountable for patient experience outcomes in the designated area.
Leadership/Management, Human Resources
  • Responsible for appropriate staffing levels, scheduling, hiring, and budgeting.
  • Assess candidates through behavioral and peer interviewing for appropriate positions within the unit and make recommendations for hire, transfer, promotion, or other staff changes.
  • Partner with Safety Specialists for orientation of new clinical staff.
  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight of all staff and completion of specific performance reviews.
  • Ensure appropriate orientation, competence assessment, in‑service training and continuing education for all staff.
  • Ensure proper documentation for recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and termination of staff are completed timely and thoroughly (e.g., position requisition, orientation checklist, separation).
  • Ensure licensing and certification for all staff are current.
  • Ensure job descriptions reflect current duties and responsibilities and performance evaluations are completed timely according to HR policies.
  • Foster an awareness of diversity within the organization and strive to increase inclusion across culture, ethnicity, gender, and age.
  • Lead and influence staff development by creating a practice climate of responsiveness and learning that supports retention and recruitment of competent nurses and team members.
  • Assist staff to identify goals and appropriate opportunities for learning.
  • Provide forums for individual and team recognition.
  • Coach and support staff by removing barriers and addressing issues.
