Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is 8:00am – 4:30pm.
General SummaryUnder direction, oversees medium to large-size construction, major renovation, and maintenance repair projects. Assists with evaluating, planning, budgeting, presenting, and implementing construction, renovation, utility maintenance, and projected capital improvement projects. Functions as the primary liaison between architects, engineers, construction managers, consultants, and client departments to ensure a smooth completion of assignments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Delivers project management support to various departments during large-scale renovation projects, including furniture planning, staff relocations, and maintenance repairs.
- Reviews specifications and obtains quotes for major project-related purchases.
- Estimates the total cost of jobs, prepares documents to obtain project funding, and assists in bidding and awarding professional services and contractor contracts.
- Meets with County department representatives and outside consultants to discuss proposed modification of County facilities.
- Determines work priorities within assigned projects to ensure that the order of work is made according to sound construction principles.
- Monitors construction to correct engineering related difficulties and perform engineering reviews necessary to recommend contractor payment requests.
- Consults with project staff to coordinate and resolve construction problems.
- Performs survey and inspection work relative to County facilities.
- Reviews reports from inspection personnel, prepares monthly payment estimates, and prepares change orders when necessary.
- Develops and updates project schedules, plans, coordinates schedules, and monitors the work of employees and contractors.
- Interprets and evaluates plans, specifications, and project drawings submitted by outside design firms.
- Coordinates the inspection of architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical construction to ensure conformity with department, building, and construction codes and adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
- Presents special project requests such as supplementary project funding to enable timely and effective appropriate action.
- Coordinates the final inspection of projects, including the negotiation of change orders necessary to ensure that construction results meet County needs.
- Utilizes current county-wide or department-specific software to complete assignments.
- Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of either:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and three (3) years of experience working in architecture, engineering, or construction management OR
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and five (5) years of experience working in architecture, engineering, or construction management
Preferred
Education and Experience:
- Seven (7) years of experience working in architecture, engineering, or construction management
Required Licenses or
Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Preferred Licenses or
Certifications:
- Licensure as a Residential Builder in good standing by the State of Michigan
