The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive music program for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade, fostering a love of music while supporting students' musical, academic, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher creates engaging lessons in music appreciation, vocal and instrumental performance, rhythm, movement, and music literacy within a positive, nurturing classroom environment.
The teacher candidate should be able to:
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate music instruction aligned with curriculum standards and school expectations.
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, and music appreciation.
- Prepare students for seasonal programs and performances.
- Integrate creativity, movement, and participation into daily lessons.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and enthusiasm for music.
- Maintain classroom instruments, music resources, and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and upcoming performances.
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational mission.
- Occasional evening events or performances may be required.
- Supports and promotes the mission and values of St. Thecla Catholic School.
- Incorporates faith-based values and appropriate sacred music into instruction
- Models Christian behavior and values in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license preferred or required according to state guidelines.
- Knowledge of elementary music instruction and child development.
- Ability to direct student performances and manage classroom behavior effectively.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
