HVAC Mechanic

Performs a variety of responsibilities related to the preventative maintenance, repair, fabrication, general maintenance, installation, inspection, service, and operation associated with being an HVAC Mechanic while ensuring compliance to state regulations. Remains available to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis; responds to emergencies to minimize and/or eliminate the need for school closures due to mechanical failure. Performs maintenance and service in other trade areas such as Plumbing, Carpentry, Roofing, Electrical and Boiler repair.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and performs regular inspections necessary for basic preventative maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, fabricates, maintains, installs, inspects, services, and/or operates building equipment and/or building structures associated with HVAC, etc.
  • Receives requests for service, prioritizes requests and schedules work schedules to respond to work orders.
  • Verifies and approves requisitions and orders, controls and accounts for supplies and equipment in order to maintain inventory records.
  • Inspects jobs, equipment, and tools in order to assure compliance with codes, guidelines, school standards, and safety rules.
  • Ability to interpret plans, prints, sketches and specifications for all jobs and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Evaluates and tests new products, equipment and processes.
  • Responds to questions, concerns and needs of school district staff, students, parents, and the public in order to provide technical and trade information and assistance.
  • Prepare records and service reports of job time and materials expended on the work order.
  • Assists in maintenance and repair of plumbing, carpentry, roofing, Electrical and boiler systems.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.

Education – Experience
- Qualifications
- Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and Trade School or Climate Control Certifications. Valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience in HVAC repair and Maintenance, required
  • Three to five years of related experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and processes, required.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions related to building maintenance and HVAC, required.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models, required.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to work with decimals and percentages. Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurements, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and blueprint and other technical documents.
