Position: Full-Time Faculty - Department of English and World Languages
  • The Department of English and World Languages at Mississippi Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank English faculty position beginning Fall 2027. We welcome applicants with the ability to teach a variety of generalist literature and writing courses. We also encourage applications from candidates whose areas of specialization will expand the breadth and variety of courses offered.
  • Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate and graduate English courses as well as a willingness to support the department’s emphasis on a systematic, methods-driven approach to textual analysis. The ideal candidate will join a supportive and collaborative department dedicated to the needs of students, the mission of the department, and the mission of the university.
  • Job Duties - Teach four courses per semester, a combination of core curriculum and upper level courses. Additionally, faculty should be prepared to:
  • Support, mentor, and advise students
  • Contribute to ongoing strategic planning for the future of the department within the School of Christian Studies, Humanities and the Arts
  • Keep a minimum of ten in-person office hours per week during each semester
  • Serve on departmental and university committees

  • Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a terminal degree in English or closely related field in hand before the start date of the appointment.

  • The Department of English and World Languages offers courses in literature, language, linguistics, cultural studies, textual analysis, qualitative research, English secondary education, and philosophy. Courses emphasize the exploration and production of a variety of texts in various modes with careful attention to replicable methodologies. The department also supports several minors:
    English studies for non-majors, applied humanities, African American studies, and philosophy.
