Job Description Education Requirements- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN);
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice in the state of Missouri
- CPR and AED Instructor’s Certification
Physical Requirements
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and procedures related to nursing practice and education
- Knowledge of and ability to coordinate a health services program
- Three (3) or more years school nurse experience
- Excellent human relations skills and ability
- Ability to make decisions and maintain a professional relationship with students, parents, administration, and staff
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
- Ability to organize and plan effectively
Effective communication skills - Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods
- Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments
- Requires extensive use of hands
- Requires the ability to occasionally travel
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job
Salary schedule
Classified
Employed for a period of
10 months/8 hours a day
Reviewed annually and recommended for reemployment determined by May 15
Reports to

- Be a member and participant in the activities of professional organizations
- Work cooperatively with administration and staff throughout the district
- Serves as a resource for health and wellness issues within the district
- Monitors compliance with all health, wellness, and immunization requirements
- Makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures in health and wellness related areas and interprets these policies and procedures for staff and community
- Supervises and evaluates school nurses and health service program
- Provides nursing direction to health service personnel
- Provides training in specialized health care and emergency health care procedures
- Coordinates health screening services
- Provides in-service training to staff regarding health services and health education
- Serves as an education resource person to staff, students, and parents and provides health instruction as required
- Participates in the placement of students in special instructional programs when appropriate
- Represents the district with Federal, State, and local health service agencies
- Assists in the recruitment and orientation of new health services personnel
- Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate
- Become familiar with and follow all Board policies, regulations, and administrative procedures, other directions given by District administrators and state and federal laws as they affect the performance of job duties
- Dress professionally and in a manner that will not interfere with the educational environment
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students
- Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness
- Authorize exclusion and re‑admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
- Advise teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects
- Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools
- Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum
- Assist students, families, and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education
- Maintain up-to-date accident reports for all students and staff
- Administer medications according to physician’s instructions and district policies
