ResponsibilitiesThe Sampson County Department of Social Services is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Processing Assistant V within the Human Resources Division. This position provides comprehensive front‑line administrative and clerical support to multiple program areas by managing client intake, handling incoming and outgoing communications, and maintaining accurate records. Duties include processing incoming clients using the ii Reception system for Food and Nutrition Services, Medicaid, Work First, Daycare, and Crisis Intervention programs;
verifying client information through NC FAST; distributing applications and documentation to appropriate staff; and assisting clients with navigating agency services.
Additional responsibilities include answering and directing incoming calls, providing front desk and customer service coverage, handling incoming and outgoing mail, assisting with document scanning and records management, maintaining lobby materials and public areas, and providing general administrative support to staff. This position will also assist with training new support staff, distributing office supplies, attending trainings and unit meetings, and completing miscellaneous clerical duties as assigned.

- General knowledge of agency programs and the ability to provide information and direct clients appropriately.
- Ability to resolve problem situations, gather and relay information accurately, and answer inquiries independently.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while managing multiple tasks and maintaining accuracy.
- Working knowledge of office equipment and computer systems, including the ability to perform inquiries and data entry within agency systems.
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two‑year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PreferencesPreference may be given to those with bi‑lingual skills and/or DSS experience.
Applicants may qualify for a work‑against‑appointment with a certain degree of education and experience.
