Job DescriptionGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of supervisory and administrative tasks to provide leadership and coordination of curricular and instructional programs across all organizational levels. Employee is responsible for supporting and coordinating the efforts of principals as well as central office curriculum and instructional personnel. Work involves coordinating English language Arts (Pre K-5), mathematics (PreK-5), science (PreK-5), social studies (PreK-5) and AIG.
Employee is also responsible for planning and implementing professional development related to curriculum and/or instruction. Other areas of oversight may include EC, Testing/Accountability, MTSS, School Improvement Plans, Migrant/ESL. Reports to the Superintendent.
- Supervise elementary school administrators, instructional coaches and early literacy specialist.
- Initiate and oversee curricular and instructional programs designed to improve instruction and student achievement in middle schools and facilitate vertical alignment between elementary and middle school as well as establishing a sound transition plan between grade spans.
- Coordinate and integrate the PreK-5 curriculum and instruction programs with principals, curriculum facilitators, regional and state personnel at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
- Provide curricular and instructional support for teachers in high need schools and coordinate efforts with principals, instructional coaching staff along and Director of Teacher Support.
- Coordinate professional development for PreK-5 content area teachers in collaboration with central services C&I team.
- Implement and oversee the district Academically Gifted Education plan, budget, PD and monitoring with AIG teachers and school identification and services.
- Facilitate gifted parent advisory council outreach events with the support from the Coordinator of AIG.
- Work towards developing an improved understanding of students' educational needs on the part of teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Initiate and maintain effective liaison with other school districts, NCPDI, Sandhills regional meetings provided through NCDPI, and SEA Alliance in order to stay abreast of state educational trends and developments.
- Assist in developing and monitoring strategic school improvement plans for the schools and district for improving student achievement and data analysis through NCSTAR.
- Collaborate with central services curriculum team to propose budgetary needs for school-wide, and/or district-wide implementation of instructional programs.
- Maintain various records and statistics as well as work collaboratively with school principals regarding student enrollment, student test scores, staff organization, etc.; monitor various trends, analyze community attitudes about and involvement in schools; create annual reports to fulfill state and local requirements including KEA, MClass, and NC Check‑ins.
- Lead the process of creating and revising curriculum guides that are inclusive of pacing, scope, and sequence, instructional strategies, sample assessment items, aligned resources, and linkage to North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
- Preview, review, and evaluate instructional strategies and curricular programs to determine selection and implementation.
- Assist principals with school‑based staff development plans.
- Assist school staff with community relations and parent involvement issues; coordinate with various community agencies to meet the needs of students; provide information to the local media when appropriate as related to curriculum and instruction.
