Description of WorkThis position is responsible for designing, developing, coordinating, managing, supporting, and maintaining the integrity for all GIS activities for County government. Duties include the maintenance of the GIS data layers utilized by the 911 CAD system and Emergency Services, planning and coordinating with multiple departments to prioritize projects to meet short-term and long-term needs of County government, creating and maintaining policies and procedures for GIS databases and associated activities, generating statistical queries and interpreting data for practical application, creating and delivering quality presentations with maps and graphics to effectively deliver information to a variety of stakeholders, participating in regional and county GIS forums and committees, and providing technical support and training to system users to allow for robust self-service and customized data extraction and reporting.
Preferred applicants will have excellent interpersonal skills and strong analytical ability combined with a thorough understanding of GIS applications and technical aptitude. This position will report to the Director of Emergency Services initially but may transition to another location with expanded GIS responsibilities.
A bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, geographic information systems, management information systems, civil engineering, cartography or related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience developing and maintaining a GIS system required.
