Special Education Teacher - Mild/Moderate Disabilities
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and collaborative Special Education Teacher (Mild/Moderate) to join our instructional team. In this role, you will support students with mild to moderate disabilities-such as specific learning disabilities, ADHD, mild autism, or speech/language impairments-to access the general education curriculum. Your primary focus will be designing and implementing individualized instruction, managing IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), and collaborating with general education teachers to ensure student success in the least restrictive environment.
Core Responsibilities
1. Case Management & IEP Development
- IEP Writing: Design, write, and implement legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on student data, evaluations, and input from stakeholders.
- Goal Tracking: Routinely monitor, document, and report on student progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.
- Meeting Facilitation: Schedule and lead annual IEP meetings, re-evaluations, and amendment meetings with parents, administrators, and specialists.
- Differentiated Instruction: Modify and adapt general education curricula in core subjects (Reading, Writing, Math) to meet the unique learning needs of students.
- Service Delivery: Deliver targeted interventions through various models, including push-in (co-teaching in general education classrooms) and pull-out (small-group resource room instruction).
- Accommodations: Ensure all testing and daily classroom accommodations (e.g., extended time, audio text, reduced answer choices) are consistently provided.
- Co-Teaching: Partner closely with general education teachers to co-plan and co-deliver inclusive lessons.
- Consultation: Provide general education staff with strategies, tools, and insights to effectively support special education students in their classrooms.
- Parent Partnership: Maintain regular, transparent communication with parents and guardians regarding student triumphs, challenges, and growth.
- Behavior Plans: Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students requiring tier 2 or 3 behavioral supports.
- Social Skills Instruction: Teach self-advocacy, executive functioning (organization, time management), and social-emotional skills.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a structured, positive, and trauma-informed classroom environment that fosters student independence.
Required Education & Certification
- Degree: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related education field.
- Licensure: Valid State Teaching Credential/License in Special Education with an endorsement in Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
- Assessment Literacy: Ability to interpret psycho educational evaluations, standard scores, and progress monitoring data.
- Tech Savviness: Proficiency with IEP management software (e.g., SEIS, Sped Track, IEP Direct) and digital learning tools.
- Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence, exceptional patience, strong conflict-resolution skills, and a deeply collaborative mindset.
