The Assistant Pom Coach is responsible for the leadership, development, and supervision of the Clinton High School Pom squad. This role focuses on teaching technical dance skills (turns, leaps, kicks) and pom-specific motions while fostering a culture of teamwork, school spirit, and academic success. The coach will choreograph and oversee performances for football games, basketball games, assemblies, and potential competitions.
Key ResponsibilitiesSkill Development: Instruct student-athletes in dance technique, including jazz, hip-hop, and traditional pom styles.
Choreography: Create or coordinate high-energy routines for sidelines and halftime performances.
Safety & Supervision: Ensure all practices and performances follow OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association) safety guidelines.
Game Day Management: Coordinate the squad’s presence at athletic events, ensuring the team is prepared, punctual, and professional.
Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, monitoring student-athlete academic eligibility and promoting sportsmanship.
Administrative Duties: Manage the program budget, oversee uniform/gear ordering, and maintain clear communication with parents and the Athletic Department.
Experience: Proven experience in dance or pom (as a performer or coach).
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of pom motions, leaps, turns, and synchronization.
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with high school students, parents, and school administration.
Certifications: Must be able to obtain required coaching certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, OSSAA Fundamentals of Coaching).
Spirit-Driven: A deep passion for CHS traditions and the Clinton community.
Organized: Ability to manage a complex schedule of practices and games.
Creative: A fresh eye for visual formations and modern choreography.
Ability to demonstrate dance movements and routines.
Standing for extended periods during practices and games.
Traveling with the team to away games as required.
