Job Overview

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities, including telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component to ensure that the area is complying with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods.

The technician can work independently or in a team environment under the supervision of an assigned supervisor. The role demands focus, skill, and proficiency with machinery and tools.

Responsibilities
  • Locate underground facilities using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
  • Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
  • Perform regular, overtime, and holiday locates, including emergency/on‑call locates, as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Perform all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
  • Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
  • Show knowledge of technology and tools needed for the job.
  • Work with others in a supervised team environment.
Equipment and Technology
  • Company vehicle, laptop, and smartphone.
  • All personal protective equipment provided.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • State‑issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to problem‑solve.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
  • Vacuum truck experience A+.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 5 years).
  • Pass a DOT drug test.
