Job Description

GIFTED AND TALENTED ELEMENTARY TEACHER

    CONTRACT:

    190 days per school year

Description:

Self-contained 3rd grade GT program to meet the needs of students who are talented by providing advanced curriculum, challenging instruction, enrichment units, and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications
:

  • Valid South Carolina certification to teach elementary students, required.
  • Gifted and Talented endorsement (or working on it), required.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities
:

  • Develops program objectives that meet district expectations and district gifted and talented plan.
  • Develops advanced curriculum and enrichment units for the gifted and talented academic program.
  • Develops lesson plans that show differentiated lessons based on the needs of gifted and talented learners. Lesson plans will include activities and materials and the use of individual and small group activities.
  • Coordinates extension activities through business partners, community groups, etc.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media consistent with the capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Implements objectives with activities that support the state standards being taught in the general education classroom.
  • Assigns tasks that are intellectually challenging to students.
  • Designs and implements parent nights to showcase student work.
  • Provides students with opportunities for interaction with community, state, and national resources.
  • Monitors students' progress, maintains appropriate records, and prepares reports for principals and the district on student achievement and growth.
  • Communicates with students, parents, and administrators through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress.
  • Completes a needs assessment, student feedback analysis, and a student growth analysis for the gifted program.
  • Serves as a resource person in gifted education for all district personnel.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Selects equipment and instructional materials in collaboration with principals and Gifted and Talented Coordinator; maintains inventory records.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates time-management and organizational skills.
  • Maintains appropriate professional appearance.
  • Willingly performs other related duties as required.
  • Presents a positive image of Laurens School District 56 through professional and ethical conduct.
