Water Treatment Operator
Help provide safe, reliable drinking water to the Clinton community.
The City of Clinton is seeking a dependable and experienced Water Treatment Operator who holds a valid South Carolina Water Treatment Operator license at the Class C level or higher. This position plays an essential role in protecting public health by operating and monitoring the City's water treatment systems, conducting laboratory testing, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with applicable drinking-water standards.

Signing and Retention Bonus
A qualified applicant hired with a valid Class C Water Treatment Operator license or higher may be eligible for a total bonus of up to $6,000, paid as follows:
- $1,500 upon hire
- $1,500 after completing one year of service
- $3,000 after completing two years of service
Purpose of Position
The Water Treatment Operator performs skilled technical work in the operation, inspection, monitoring, and maintenance of the City's water treatment plant. The position is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and continuous production of potable water; conducting water-quality testing; adjusting treatment processes; maintaining accurate operational records; and assisting the City in meeting applicable federal, state, and local drinking-water requirements.
Essential Duties
- Operates and monitors water treatment plant equipment and processes.
- Performs routine laboratory testing and evaluates water-quality results.
- Adjusts chemical feed rates and treatment processes to maintain water-quality standards.
- Operates and maintains pumps, motors, meters, generators, chemical feed systems, and related equipment.
- Performs filter backwashing, sludge management, equipment calibration, and preventive maintenance.
- Receives, handles, and stores treatment chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Completes operational logs, regulatory reports, and other required documentation.
- Identifies equipment or process problems and takes appropriate corrective action.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly plant environment.
- Responds to plant emergencies and participates in the on-call rotation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- One to two years of water treatment experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid South Carolina driver's license.
- Valid South Carolina Water Treatment Operator license at the Class C level or higher.
- Ability to work the position's required schedule, including designated nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and emergency call-back assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a municipal surface-water treatment plant.
- Experience performing drinking-water laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of chemical feed systems, pumps, motors, filters, and SCADA systems.
- Class B or Class A Water Treatment Operator license.
