Senior

Industrial Maintenance & Fabrication Technician

Location: Clinton, SC
Job Type: Full-Time | Hourly

Asten Johnson is seeking a highly skilled Senior Industrial Maintenance & Fabrication Technician to join our Maintenance Team in Clinton, SC. This is more than a traditional maintenance role—it's an opportunity to become the technical expert who keeps our manufacturing operation running at peak performance.

If you're a hands-on problem solver with advanced mechanical skills, welding and machining expertise, and experience with industrial utility systems, we want to hear from you. In this role, you'll design solutions, fabricate custom components, troubleshoot complex equipment, and serve as a trusted technical resource for the maintenance team.

What You'll Do

As our Senior Industrial Maintenance & Fabrication Technician, you will:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for plant utility systems, including steam boilers, chillers, and hot oil systems
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and system-level equipment failures
  • Design and fabricate custom parts, tools, and equipment improvements
  • Perform advanced welding on aluminum, steel, and a variety of other metals
  • Operate machine shop equipment, including lathes and milling machines, to manufacture precision components
  • Rebuild motors, pumps, and mechanical assemblies
  • Perform precision alignment and shimming of equipment to maximize reliability
  • Monitor boiler chemistry and optimize system performance
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other site teams on equipment improvements and capital projects
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and high-quality work environment
What Makes This Role Different

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys creating solutions—not just repairing equipment.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Solve complex technical challenges
  • Build custom equipment and components
  • Play a critical role in maintaining plant infrastructure
  • Serve as a technical leader within the maintenance organization
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced welding experience (aluminum, steel, and multiple metals)
  • High-level machining and fabrication skills
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing complex industrial equipment
  • Working knowledge of boilers, chillers, and hot oil systems
  • Knowledge of industrial boiler chemistry
  • Experience with precision alignment and equipment setup
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
Preferred Qualifications
  • Boiler Operator Certification or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience operating or maintaining industrial boiler systems
  • Formal training in welding, machining, or mechanical systems
  • Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely work in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders and elevated platforms
  • Manual dexterity required for welding, machining, and operating hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions including gripping, reaching, and twisting
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Why Asten Johnson?

At Asten Johnson, you'll join a team committed to safety, innovation, and continuous improvement. We invest in our people and provide opportunities to solve challenging problems while making a meaningful impact on our manufacturing operation.

If you're ready to bring your advanced maintenance and fabrication skills to a company where your expertise is valued, we'd love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
