Crisis Assistant

Clinch River Community School is looking for a Crisis Assistant.

Behavior Crisis Assistants will provide extended classroom support and follow up for students requiring and increased level of support and supervision. These assistants will monitor and help with data collection and analysis, communicate with school-based and district level support staff regarding further needs, and ensure that behavior interventions will be practiced with fidelity. The assistants will work to maintain behavior interventions with existing supports in the school and will streamline the shift of responsibility to the school staff.

Qualifications
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or two years experience working with children
  • Passed a test that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills and organizational skills
  • Must be able to participate in Anderson County School's crisis model system and pass the practical and physical exam
Essential Functions/Job Duties
  • Ensure behavior support plans are being monitored and determine if the plan is being effective or in need of revision.
  • Provide replacement behavior training with students and model how to continue the training to building level staff (i.e. teachers or assistants).
  • Provide social/emotional learning opportunities to students and train building level staff in developing a social/emotional learning path for individual students.
  • Be a part of the school team in completing the functional behavior assessment process.
  • Assist teachers, secretaries and clerical personnel when needed
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills
  • Know and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the position
  • Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
  • Achieve and maintain certification in district-approved behavior intervention training program that requires the demonstration of proper physical and verbal de-escalation techniques used during a potential crisis situation.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of research based instructional strategies for students with severe behavioral challenges by implementing individualized strategies with reliability and validity.
  • Physical Demands:
    Must be able to move quickly enough to provide for the safety and instructional needs of children. The person in this position must be physically active and interactive throughout the day. Due to the demands of this position there is the possibility of getting hit, kick, etc. when working with students with crisis level behaviors.
  • Keep and maintain reliable and valid data on behavioral programs and systematic reinforcement systems.
