Job Description Position SummaryThe EHS Specialist is responsible for coordinating health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure a safe workplace and full compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations. This role serves as a key liaison for medical services, workers' compensation, and environmental permitting to maintain a high-standard, compliant manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities Health & Safety Management- Develops and enforces safety policies, systems, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA regulations.
- Coordinates facility inspections and tours to detect and mitigate accident, fire, and health hazards.
- Leads investigations into accidents and injuries, preparing detailed reports for insurance carriers and legal proceedings.
- Directs Team Member training programs focused on accident prevention, fire protection, and general safety awareness.
- Provides expert advice on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintains the facility’s ISO 14001 certification and supports the rollout of ISO 45001.
- Manages RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management programs.
- Oversees environmental permitting and monitoring, including Air permits, Storm water checks, and Waste water analysis.
- Operates and maintains equipment used to monitor air, land, and water quality.
- Supervises company medical services and oversees injury prevention and vocational rehabilitation programs.
- Manages workers’ compensation claims, including contract negotiation and performance monitoring with insurance carriers.
- Provides disability management training and education to Team Members and leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or 4–6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Preferred Education:
A degree in safety science, engineering, or industrial hygiene. - Certification: CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of OSHA, TDEC, NEPA, and ANSI regulations. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Ability to coach staff through complex or emotional issues and enlist cooperation for regulatory requirements.
- Physical Demands:
Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk and sit. - Lifting:
Must regularly lift up to 10 lbs, frequently lift up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. - Environment:
Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts in a loud environment. Occasional exposure to extreme heat, fumes, and toxic chemicals. - Schedule:
Regular attendance is required, including availability for weekends and holidays as needed.
