Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS:
- V alid Tennessee R egistered N urse license is required.
- Experience in public health or in child health is preferred.
- Current CPR BLS Certification
- Valid TN Driver’s License
- Knowledge of Diabetes Management, G astrostomy T ube Feedings, Tracheostomy Suctioning and C atheterizations of school age children.
- Knowledge of growth and development and health problems/conditions commonly seen among school-age children
- Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care needs of children with special health problems
- This position requires someone who is flexible in adapting to changing situations and work orders; work courteously and cooperatively with administration, staff and parents; demonstrate respect, compassion and caring for children; be confidential, work efficiently and effectively; and must be committed to documentation and safety
- Under the supervision of the Nursing Director/Principal
- Provide nursing and other health-related activities which enhance the health and wellbeing of school children
- Carries out specific nursing tasks, procedures and activities
- Maintains up-to-date individualized health records
- The primary duties for this position involve the responsibility for medical related procedures to be performed during the school day as well as medication administration for students.
- Coordinate the Telemedicine Program in the school.
- Performs other duties relevant to a school nurse position in a school clinic setting
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of procedures, reports, and activities
- Attend IEP and 504 meetings, as necessary, for those children with special health care needs to provide medical input and assist with goal development.
- Communicates to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
- Perform medical emergency assistance when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned
