Millwright Mechanic
This role is a hands-on millwright mechanic position in a heavy manufacturing environment, responsible for rebuilding equipment, performing mechanical repairs, welding, and maintaining production machinery. You will work around large industrial equipment, support production with urgent repairs, and handle physically demanding tasks while solving complex mechanical and industrial challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Perform complete equipment rebuilds, including teardown, inspection, repair, and reassembly of industrial machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on production and support equipment.
- Perform welding and fabrication work, including stick welding, MIG welding, cutting with torches, and grinding.
- Install, align, and maintain industrial machinery, including conveyors, motors, gearboxes, rollers, presses, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical failures, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings to plan and execute repairs and installations.
- Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to verify tolerances and alignment.
- Perform rigging and safe lifting operations to move and position heavy equipment and components.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on production machinery and accurately document work performed.
- Support production teams by responding quickly to breakdowns and urgent repair needs to reduce downtime.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and reliable operating condition.
- Work safely in a demanding environment with heat, noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery, following all safety procedures and using required PPE.
- Troubleshoot and repair rollers and extrusion machines, ensuring reliable operation.
- Assist with machining tasks when needed, including operating manual mills and lathes if capable.
Essential
Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven hands-on repair experience in an industrial setting.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in welding and fabrication, including structural and mechanical repairs using stick and MIG processes, cutting torches, and grinding tools.
- Experience working in heavy or rough manufacturing environments with large industrial equipment.
- Skill in using hand tools, power tools, and industrial shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and repair procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Capability to perform frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working in tight or elevated spaces.
- Ability to lift and move heavy components, including regularly handling up to 50 pounds and more with assistance.
- Comfort working in steel-toe boots and personal protective equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair rollers and extrusion machines.
Additional Skills &
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a millwright or industrial mechanic.
- Welding certifications in MIG, stick, or fabrication disciplines.
- Experience with equipment rebuilds, machining, or heavy equipment repair.
- Rigging experience and familiarity with safe lifting practices for heavy machinery.
- Forklift experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating manual mills and lathes.
- Experience working with presses, rollers, and pneumatic systems in industrial applications.
