To be offered a welding position you must pass the weld test.

Responsibilities
  • Fit and weld metal components to design drawings and weld procedures. Stick, MIG, TIG, Flux core, and Submerged Arc welding.
  • Lays out, fits and welds fabricated heavy plate steel components to assemble tanks and pressure vessel.
Local Requirements
  • Access equipment utilizing appropriate fall protection and available handholds.
  • Understand verbal instructions and written posted notices.
  • Comply with all written and verbally communicated safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform general labor in shop environment.
  • Maintain and use personal protective equipment.
  • Occasional outdoor exposure to weather elements (heat, cold, sun, snow, wind, rain etc.).
  • Work effectively at heights without disorientation on ladders which may be heights up to 10 ft.
Qualifications
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. frequently throughout the workday and up to 50 lbs. infrequently.
  • Must be able to stand 100% of the day.
  • High school or equivalent (Preferred).
  • Able to read design drawing.
  • Able to pass a weld test.
  • Able to pass pre‑employment drug screen.
Skills and Behaviors
  • Layouts, assembly, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques. Positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, tape measure.
  • Tack‑welds or welds on components and assemblies, using electric, or other welding equipment.
  • Determines required welding method, welding techniques.
  • May be required to use Gas‑Metal Arc, Flux‑Cored Arc, Gas‑Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc Welding processes.
  • Cuts workpiece, using oxy‑fuel hand torch and plasma.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together in various body positions.
  • Bolts, clamps, and welds together metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe, and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
  • May weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead position; at times under pre‑heat conditions.
  • May preheat work piece using hand torch.
  • Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools.
  • May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
  • Assists other mechanics/personnel as needed.
  • Performs only procedures certified in.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with safety and shop rules.
  • Installs and repairs fabricated parts into shop assemblies.
  • Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, or scraper.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Handling and Moving Objects—Using shop safety handling practice, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Arm‑Hand Steadiness— The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Written Comprehension— The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Extent Flexibility— The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Near Vision— The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Information Comprehension— The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations). Mathematical Reasoning— The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
  • Drawing Reading— Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Performs other duties as required.
