The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes that all students can learn and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors we can control. They will work interdependently with teachers, school and district leaders to improve student learning, partner with staff to enhance student and family engagement, and meet students’ academic, social, and emotional needs so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging.
PositionPurpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific needs, and providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
- Participate in PPTs and assist in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and state and federal authorities as needed.
- Work with administrators and other staff to determine students’ abilities and needs and to inform stakeholders about social work services.
- Serve as a ready resource to students and parents, providing counseling and acting as liaison between home and school.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings and by maintaining relationships with higher‑learning institutions and the business community.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate record‑keeping and provide student information to prospective colleges and employers as required.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in‑service training and guidance.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, aids, supplies, and equipment and maintain inventory records.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree, with a Master’s degree preferred, and a current Minnesota State Licensure in Special Education. Additional qualifications include a commitment to equitable education, creative planning and organizational skills, highly effective interpersonal skills, and experience working with diverse learners using differentiation, guided reading, and technology.
Licensing RequirementsCurrent Minnesota Special Education license or eligibility is required.
Salary and BenefitsThe starting pay ranges from $49,172 to $71,798 and is based on the Education Minnesota Cloquet Master Agreement. Benefits include medical, dental, life, long‑term disability, long‑term care, an employee assistance program, and retirement contributions. Eligible employees receive paid sick, safe time, and personal leave.
