American Indian Education Academic Tutor

Reports to:

Primarily the Director of American Indian Education, with coordination and oversight from the building principal.

Position

Purpose:

To provide academic support and culturally responsive tutoring for American Indian students in ISD #94. This role supports academic success, cultural identity and the well-being of students in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish regular contact with assigned students, creating a supportive, culturally affirming learning atmosphere
• Maintain communication with families and assist them in accessing student information through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal
• Provide individualized and small-group tutoring focused on class assignments, study skills, and core academic competencies, as directed by classroom teachers
• Support special education students by delivering tutoring aligned with their IEP goals, in partnership with special education staff
• Be punctual, dependable, and professional during scheduled tutoring sessions
• Support learning in classroom settings as well as through one-on-one or small group sessions
• Maintain flexible scheduling in coordination with the building principal and AIE Director
• Advocate for and articulate academic and special education needs of American Indian students, promoting understanding and inclusion across education settings

Collaboration & Coordination:

• Maintain consistent communication with American Indian Education staff, school personnel, social workers, counselors, and other student support specialists
• Collaborate with school personnel while aligning with the mission, standards and expectations of the American Indian Education Program

Additional Contributions:

• Encourage and support student involvement in school community activities
• Help organize and support cultural events and celebrations in the school district
• Provide occasional phone support and assist fellow staff with students as needed
• Attend parent/teacher conferences and Parent Committee Meetings

Qualifications:

• Two (2) years of post-secondary training is preferred
• The American Indian Tutor needs a working knowledge of academic concepts to be shared
• The tutor should develop, know and utilize diverse teaching approaches to individual students
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required
• Strong organizational skills are required

Skills & Tools

Required:

• Comfortable using or learning educational platforms including Infinite Campus, Apple Works, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and SMART Board tools
• Familiar with iPads/Chromebooks and PC computers, copy machines, and phones

Salary and Benefits The starting pay for this position is between $20.61/hr. and $23.24/hr. and is based on AFSCME Paraprofessional, AIE, COTA Contract.
