Education Instructor – Enrichment and Recreation

Reports to:

Enrichment and Recreation Coordinator

General Description:

Provide quality instruction, coaching, and leadership for Community Education enrichment and recreation programs. Instructors may propose and teach a variety of classes, activities, clubs, leagues, camps, workshops, or recreational programs based on their knowledge, experience, interests, and the needs of the Cloquet community.

The instructor is responsible for planning and delivering a safe, positive, and engaging experience for participants. Depending on the program, responsibilities may include teaching an enrichment class, leading a recreational activity, coaching a sport, or facilitating a club, league, camp, or other Community Education offering.

Instructors work cooperatively with Community Education staff and follow all Cloquet Public Schools, Community Education, and facility policies and procedures.

Education/Licensure Needed:

Education, training, certification, licensure, or relevant experience appropriate to the class, activity, or sport being taught or coached.

Job Qualifications:
  • Knowledge, experience, training, or demonstrated skill in the area being taught or coached.
  • Experience working with children, youth, adults, or community groups, as appropriate to the program.
  • Ability to provide a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for participants.
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and effectively deliver instruction or coaching.
  • Ability to work independently while also work cooperatively with Community Education staff.
  • Ability to follow district, Community Education, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Dependable, responsible, and punctual.
  • Ability to safely supervise participants and equipment.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or other applicable certification may be required depending on the program.
Job Duties:

1. Instruction/Coaching
  • Provide quality instruction, coaching, or leadership appropriate to the class, activity, or sport.
  • Create a positive setting that enables participants to learn, participate, have fun, and develop skills.
  • Prepare and organize lessons, practices, activities, or other program content appropriate to the participants and program.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, instructions, rules, and safety procedures to participants.
  • Modify instruction or activities as appropriate to accommodate different skill levels and participant needs.
  • Encourage participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive relationships.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of participants throughout the program.
  • Provide feedback and encouragement to participants in a positive and constructive manner.
