The CAS Senior is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting for the firm’s clients. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The CAS Senior supervises the Staff and Bookkeepers in the CAS Department and oversees the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll cycles, and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
This position addresses tight deadlines and many accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year‑end client tax and audit projects, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The CAS Senior will have contact with clients and is encouraged to always look for cross‑selling opportunities.
- Prepare month‑end closing journal entries, monthly financial statements, and monthly budgets and forecasting with continued maintenance
- Responsible for gathering audit documentation and support requested by outside auditors
- Lead special projects as assigned by supervisor and work with supervisor to develop and maintain procedures and checklists to facilitate client and department work
- Reconcile client records to trial balance, which may include analytical procedures, and perform schedule computations of prepaids, accruals, property and equipment, and calculate depreciation expense
- Responsible for overseeing clerical and administrative tasks for department, with expectation of setting schedule and organizing work according to workloads and budgets
- Communicate budget and priorities with partners/managers while being able to identify separately billable time and cross‑selling opportunities
- Participate in department meetings/discussions and assist with internal training
- Begin to take charge of client relationships and be primary contact for clients
- Build productive relationships with staff, other seniors, supervisors, managers, and principals by keeping teams informed of work progress and adapting to various management styles
- Become familiar with the firm’s policies, procedures, mission, and values
- Stay up‑to‑date on industry‑specific/niche group journals and firm library sources
- Learn about the firm’s service capabilities so they can be offered to clients in appropriate circumstances
- Proficiency in use of computers and accounting software (mainly Sage Intacct, Quick Books, Flo Qast, )
- Understanding of the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA
- Well‑rounded knowledge and understanding of accounting principles, AP, AR, and Payroll processes, specifically within non‑profit organizations
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English
- Ability to oversee staff and experience reviewing staff work
- Must be able to operate in a fast‑paced environment with extreme attention to detail and accuracy, minimal supervision, and ability to multitask
- Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills with a client‑centric approach
