The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for civil construction projects. Working under the direction of the Lead Estimator, this role supports the bidding process by analyzing project plans, performing quantity takeoffs, coordinating vendor and subcontractor pricing, and maintaining organized estimating documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to understand scope, requirements, and constraints.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost calculations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Identify key cost variables, assumptions, and risk factors impacting project estimates.
- Research materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing for bidding purposes.
- Solicit, review, and compile pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Maintain organized estimate files, bid logs, and supporting documentation for auditability and future reference.
- Collaborate with the estimating team and other internal stakeholders to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Utilize estimating and takeoff software to support efficient and accurate estimating processes.
- Adapt to evolving systems, tools, and estimating practices as the business grows.
- Working knowledge of civil construction means and methods.
- Strong numerical aptitude with an analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam; experience with additional estimating software is a plus.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
- Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and a positive approach to problem-solving.

In this role, you’ll prepare accurate, competitive, and well-supported cost estimates by analyzing plans, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, coordinating vendor and subcontractor pricing, and ensuring all estimating documentation is complete and organized.
You’ll work closely with the Lead Estimator and project stakeholders, contributing directly to the company’s success in securing profitable work and strengthening client relationships.
