Director, New American Legal Clinic & Full-Time Faculty (Clovis, CA)

The Clinic Director (“Director”) is ultimately responsible for all clinic operations. The Director establishes short and long-term goals and provides leadership, guidance, and direction in day-to-day implementation of necessary policies and procedures to accomplish those goals. The Director analyzes and evaluates, on a regular basis, the effectiveness of all NALC clinical operations and makes necessary changes. In addition, the Director is responsible for establishing, teaching, maintaining, and evaluating the effectiveness of the educational component of NALC.

The Director provides mentorship and guidance to all students and clinic personnel in their representation of NALC clients, and regularly evaluates, trains, and gives constructive feedback to students and clinic personnel. As a faculty member the director shares responsibility for governance of the school through individual and committee assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

This is a full-time professorship beginning August 1, 2026.

  • Education:

    J.D., L.L.B., or L.L.M, from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or the California Committee of Bar Examiners.
  • Licensure:
    Admission to some state Bar, California preferred.
  • Experience:

    Five to seven years of relevant experience in immigration law; previous leadership and management experience and willingness to learn new areas of law and/or legal skills.

Must have the ability to teach law effectively to a diverse population of students; ability to work in a collaborative environment with other faculty, students, and administration; ability to teach and develop students and staff in a clinic environment; ability to assess student and staff performance successfully; fluency in another language, preferably Spanish.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish overall vision, mission, scope, and goals for the immigration clinic and create policies and standards to achieve those goals.
  • Provide direct representation to clients in immigration matters.
  • Provide or oversee provision of sound legal advice and guidance to clients.
  • Management of day-to-day operations of clinic, including scheduling, training, coaching and performance evaluations of clinic personnel, oversight to ensure compliance with wage and hour law and college policy.
  • Create, develop, and oversee the educational curriculum in support of NALC; ensure that students complete the required clinic hours to qualify for credit.
  • Recruit and encourage students to participate in the clinic.
  • Oversee systems and data to ensure security and accuracy of information necessary for compliance with private and public grants and reporting; participate with the Dean in grant writing; identify prospective partnerships for purposes of grant opportunities to support the financial needs of the clinic.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to use of volunteers and law students/legal interns to support the clinic.
  • Create and maintain relationships with community groups and collaborating legal services providers, including private practitioners and relevant bar associations;
  • Oversee organization and implementation of the clinic’s participation in community events; representation of the clinic in media opportunities.
  • Other administrative responsibilities as assigned or needed.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends to support events.

The applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily which include reading, typing/ keyboarding, lifting to 10 pounds, on average six plus hours at a workstation. Primarily works indoors in a heated/air-conditioned workspace.
