Civil Procedure Teaching Assistant - SJCL (Clovis)

Teaching Assistants (TAs) play a vital role in 1L success. The Civil Procedure TA(s) will work alongside the professor providing support and reinforcement of concepts to students. The position can be tailored to the TA’s interests and may include holding office hours, conducting regular weekend study sessions, researching select topics, developing and reviewing advisory essays and exercises, providing the professor feedback on exam drafts, assisting students 1:1 with outline development and essay writing, and at times attending class, if possible.

TAs may not score any essays that determine a student’s final grade. TAs may enroll in assistantship elective units as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, facilitate, and lead optional weekend study sessions
  • Assist with preparing in-class exercises, advisory graded essays, and quizzes
  • Work with students to develop outlines, reinforce subject matter, practice essay writing, and prepare for exams
  • Provide peer-level support to students
  • Meet with professor regularly to provide feedback on student understanding of concepts
  • Maintain detailed log of hours worked

Qualifications

  • Current 2,3,4L student in good standing at San Joaquin College of Law
  • Exemplary performance in Civil Procedure I and II
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Dependable and able to follow instructions
  • Experience working with a diverse group of individuals including first-generation students
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding the SJCL Honor Code and adherence to the ethical standards of the legal profession including maintaining confidentiality
  • Able to work a minimum of 45 hours during the fall 2026 semester
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study program

Salary Range: $/hour
