The Central California Asthma Collaborative (CCAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the burden of asthma and other health disparities in the San Joaquin Valley.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The CARES Administrative Intern, under the direction of the Medi-Cal Billing Manager and in consultation with CCAC’s Director of Community Health, is responsible for managing authorizations, maintaining accurate records, supporting communication with patients and health plans, and assisting with auditing and compliance activities.

This internship lasts about 5–7 months, depending on project needs. This is a part time position at 20 hours a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Enter Asthma Remediation (AR) authorizations into health plan portals accurately and timely
  • Monitor authorization statuses and follow up with health plans regarding pending requests, additional information needs, or denials
  • Audit completed home assessments against submitted authorization requests to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Update ordering lists once authorizations are approved
  • Communicate authorization updates to patients through text messages, letters, or other approved communication methods
  • Audit authorizations that have been approved, ordered, and paid by health plans
  • Serve as a point of contact for AR order issues and staff inquiries
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality at all times
  • Complete Return Transmission Files (RTFs) for health plans accurately and within required timelines
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to authorizations and orders
  • Assist with additional administrative and operational tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • High school diploma required; currently enrolled in or recently completed a college or vocational program preferred
  • Interest in healthcare administration, public health, social services, or related fields
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Experience working with health plans, authorizations, or medical administration preferred but not required
