Classification Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant City Manager, this position develops and reviews information disseminated through various media to the public and employees, and is responsible for the coordination of community‑wide events held by the City of Clovis.
Typical Duties Marketing- Prepares, reviews, and edits draft communications such as press releases, feature stories, newsletters, marketing and advertising material to meet deadlines, and provide accurate, clear, and concise information.
- Designs and oversees the production of videos and other promotional materials and advertising for dissemination to the public.
- Oversees the City of Clovis websites and mobile applications to optimize search engine positioning and information dissemination.
- Coordinates the development of information utilizing a variety of media; manages and develops content for social media and updates various social media platforms.
- Responds to inquiries to ensure effective, consistent, accurate, and timely communication; works with city departments regarding public information needs, public service announcements and media notifications.
- Develops communications and promotional materials utilizing a variety of media to publicize programs and events related to the City of Clovis.
- Collects and analyzes data to prepare and present various special and recurring reports.
- Provides accurate and timely information related to assigned functions and duties.
- Reviews, edits and approves reports, and prepares and maintains required departmental records and reports.
- Represents the Department in commission meetings, civic and professional events, regional, state, and local committees, meetings and conferences.
- Responds to and resolves various complaints, issues, inquiries, and problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and manages various special and recurring projects.
- Organizes and implements events including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Smoke on the Water, City Employee Morale activities, Wings and Wheels, and Mayor's Ball.
- Assists other departments as needed with event coordination and supports/promotes special events such as National Night Out, Christmas Nights at the Zoo, Greene Acres Christmas tree lighting, conferences or special meetings.
- Understanding requirements for each event, plans events with attention to financial and time constraints, sets budgets based on needs, and seeks sponsorship.
- Books venues, schedules speakers, researches and selects vendors.
- Prepares venue, invitations, and other materials; works with other departments to schedule event planning.
- Responds calmly to unexpected challenges, cancellations, or changes in client requests.
- Makes appointments, schedules tasks, keeps on schedule, oversees the event, evaluates its success, and submits reports.
- Makes public appearances and statements within delegated authority on various topics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or related field AND three (3) years of experience in Hospitality, website development oversight, public and/or community relations.
- High proficiency in Excel, Word, spreadsheets and PowerPoint, graphic design platforms.
- Experience may substitute for degree requirements.
- Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
- Valid Driver's license (equivalent to a NM Class "D").
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
Physical RequirementsWork is primarily performed in a standard office environment, various facilities and outdoors, where occasional hazards may exist, including uneven ground surfaces as well as varied weather and traffic conditions. Light physical demands; mostly desk work, some lifting and carrying of files and reports. Frequent to constant use of a personal computer.
Supplemental Information - Knowledge of- Principles, practices, and techniques of effective public relations, mass communications, marketing, promotion, advertising, event planning, customer service, and project, program and records management.
- Current methods and standards for preparing effective correspondence and writing and editing techniques.
