Social Worker
Job Title:
NMAMA School Social Worker – Middle and High School (General and Special Education).
Reports To:
Executive Director/Principal or Director of Student Services. Position Type:
Full‑Time / Certified or Licensed Support Staff.
The School Social Worker provides support services to middle and high school students to promote their social, emotional, and academic well‑being. Serving both general education and special education populations, the social worker collaborates with educators, families, and community agencies to address barriers to learning, implement interventions, and contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ mental health, social skills, and emotional regulation.
- Conduct assessments and develop behavior or support plans for students with social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
- Support crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and safety planning for students and staff.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, home, and community resources.
- Design, lead, and monitor the school’s Social and Emotional Learning program initiative.
- Participate in special education evaluation and eligibility processes as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the development of IEPs for students with emotional, behavioral, or social needs.
- Deliver social work services as outlined in IEPs and maintain appropriate documentation and progress reports.
- Support implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and trauma‑informed practices.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and specialists to support student success.
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate.
- Refer families to outside resources for housing, counseling, food, medical care, and other services.
- Ensure confidentiality and maintain accurate, timely records in accordance with school, state, and federal guidelines.
- Attend a minimum of 3 out‑of‑school functions, one of which must be graduation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Principal.
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- State licensure or certification as a School Social Worker (LMSW, LCSW, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of child development, mental health, special education law (IDEA), and trauma‑informed care.
- Experience working with adolescents in school or youth‑service settings.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
- Bilingual (preferred, depending on school community).
