Job Summary:
The NMAMA Physical Education (PE) Teacher promotes lifelong fitness, health, and well-being by delivering a comprehensive physical education program to middle and high school students. This role fosters skill development, teamwork, and personal responsibility through a variety of sports, activities, and health-related instruction aligned with state and national standards.
- Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons that build physical skills, fitness, and healthy habits
- Teach a variety of activities, including team sports, individual fitness, dance, and cooperative games
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse abilities and needs, including students with IEPs or 504 plans
- Promote safety, respect, and positive sportsmanship in all class activities
- Assess and track student performance in physical fitness, participation, and skill development
- Maintain and organize gym equipment and ensure a safe physical environment
- Collaborate with staff to support school-wide wellness initiatives and events
- Communicate regularly with students and families about class expectations and progress
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school activities as required
- Attend a minimum of 3 out-of-school functions, one of which must be graduation
- May include teaching Health Education
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Principal
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education (K–12 or secondary level)
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (required or willingness to obtain)
- Experience teaching adolescents in a school or youth program setting
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to promoting physical activity, inclusivity, and positive youth development
