Job Title:
NMAMA Inclusion Educational Assistant – Middle and High School
Reports To:
Special Education Director, Special Education Teacher(s), Executive Director/Principal
Position Type:
Full-Time / Classified Staff Position
The NMAMA Inclusion Educational Assistant supports the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities in general education classrooms. Working under the direction of special education and general education teachers, this role helps implement accommodations, modifications, and support strategies to promote inclusive learning and student success.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct support to students with IEPs in inclusive classrooms and school settings
- Assist with instructional tasks, including reading, writing, note-taking, and class participation
- Reinforce lessons and help implement behavior support plans as directed by teachers
- Support students during group work, independent tasks, tests, and transitions
- Help foster student independence, self-advocacy, and peer interaction
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all school and special education policies
- Collaborate with teachers and service providers to share observations and support strategies
- Supervise students in various settings (e.g., classrooms, hallways, lunch, or school events) as needed
- Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities
- Attend a minimum of 3 out of school functions, one of which must be graduation
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Principal
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or higher degree preferred)
- Prior experience working with middle or high school students and/or students with disabilities
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to follow teacher directions and adapt to diverse student needs
- Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive education
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality and act with professionalism
