Job Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and teach courses related to Emergency Medical Services including didactic content, psychomotor skills, problem solving, clinical practice and field experiences. Teach 30 credit hours over Fall and Spring semesters. Teaching assignment may include day, evenings, weekends, online, and/or multiple campus locations. As appropriate, assist with internships or work site development and student placement. Maintain office hours as mandated by division and college policy.

Maintains professional and academic competence and participates in professional development activities at the local, state, and/or national level, including willingness to attain industry-specific certifications. Instructs, supports, advises, and provides timely feedback to students in accordance with DACC policy and procedures.

Participates in and serves on department, division, and college committees, program advisory councils, task forces and working groups. Functions as a faculty advisor to student clubs and groups. Collaborates with department faculty to revise and update course curriculum to stay current within the discipline and workplace trends. Develops, revises and updates program curricula in collaboration with faculty including online courses. Participates in student advising process for all department programs guiding students to timely completion of their degree or certificate.

Participates in department/program student recruitment and advising events. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

Education and Experience:

  • NM Intermediate / AEMT license or higher
  • Associate Degree in hand by date of hire. A bachelor’s degree is requisite for promotion to senior ranks.
  • Three (3) years experience as an EMS Provider with at least two (2) years experience in the pre-hospital or emergency clinical setting.
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience or Emergency Medical Services related training/academy teaching experience.
  • Current New Mexico I/C license
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience in teaching and learning methodologies for post-secondary students including developing curriculum, measuring outcomes, evaluating course efficacy, and assessing program and student learning.
  • Computer literate and ability to use appropriate technology.
  • Experience with Distance Education technologies and teaching methodologies.
  • Experience with Accreditation.
  • Endorsement of the teaching philosophy of DACC which supports a goal of success for all students through hands‑on learning experiences, strong faculty involvement, and proactive curriculum development.
  • Experience with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating a commitment to engage and work collaboratively with students, supervisors, colleagues, staff, and community.
  • One (1) year experience supervising EMS Providers/students.
  • Community College teaching experience.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: No or very limited physical effort required.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
