Educational Assistant Reports To
- Building Principal
The Educational Assistant supports classroom instruction by assisting teachers with daily activities, reinforcing student learning, and helping maintain a positive, safe, and structured learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support- Support small-group and individual instruction under the direction of the teacher.
- Reinforce classroom instruction and student learning activities.
- Use instructional strategies and materials aligned with lesson objectives.
- Maintain student engagement in appropriate learning activities.
- Assist in maintaining classroom discipline and reinforcing behavioral expectations.
- Supervise students in:
- Classrooms
- Hallways
- Playgrounds
- Cafeterias
- Other assigned areas
- Escort students to and from classrooms or other school locations as needed.
- Supervise students during field trips and extracurricular activities.
- Fulfill assigned supervision duties such as:
- Hall duty
- Bus duty
- Lunch duty
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom setup.
- Assist with specialized units and classroom activities.
- Maintain attendance records and complete clerical tasks as assigned.
- Create and update bulletin boards and classroom displays.
- Operate standard school equipment, including:
- Copier
- Laminator
- Audiovisual equipment
- Multimedia technology
- Communicate accurate and current information to support student learning.
- Collaborate professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and students.
- Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
- Apply conflict-resolution strategies when addressing student behavior.
- Safeguard school property, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Serve as a positive role model within the school community.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect according to district policy.
- Perform additional duties assigned by teachers, principals, or administration.
- Monitor and supervise students in assigned settings under the direction of certified staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid New Mexico Educational Assistant License
- Ability to successfully complete employment verification requirements
- Ability to:
- Sit
- Stand
- Walk
- Bend
- Kneel
- Squat
- Climb stairs
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move light furniture and classroom materials
Required training includes:
- Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Awareness
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Ability to operate or learn to operate:
- Classroom technology
- Multimedia equipment
- Current instructional technology tools
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor school settings
- Exposure to varying:
- Noise levels
- Temperatures
- Air quality conditions
- Frequent interruptions and flexibility are expected
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required
- Occasional evening or after-hours responsibilities may be required
- Salary and work schedule determined by the Board.
