What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in NG Tester Sustainment. Our team is responsible for calibrating, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading automated test equipment, and we are looking for a highly motivated and talented teammate. A successful candidate will work with a diverse team, including software engineers, electrical engineers, systems engineers, mechanical engineers, technologists, and electrical fabricators supporting the nation’s nuclear deterrent.
Responsibilities- Work in a highly integrated team of technologists and engineers to support the automated test equipment on the neutron generator production floors.
- Design, fabricate, and implement mechanical component solutions.
- Work on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Create and maintain product definition drawings.
- Support product testing efforts.
- Deliver results and report findings to team members and project partners.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and teammates.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
- Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of neutron generator production and testing
- Skilled in the use of CREO, PDMLink, and PRIME
- Experience in rapid prototyping
The NG Tester Sustainment team is responsible for the calibration, maintenance, repair, and enhancement of the testers used for neutron generator manufacturing and acceptance.
Salary Range$117,500 - $235,700
Security ClearancePosition requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
