POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the independent operation of radiology equipment. Perform a wide range of highly technical procedures that requires independent thought, judgment, and discretion. Maintain and utilize equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on digital radiography for diagnostic purposes. Serve as liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and other members of the support team by establishing and maintaining a good rapport and professional relationship.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS

Prepare and set up x-ray room for patient. Position x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.

Use beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.

Determine patients' x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians.

Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician. Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

Make exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards. Provide students or other technicians with suggestions of additional views, alternate positioning, or improved techniques to ensure the images produced are of the highest quality.

Operate digital picture archiving communications systems.

Transport patients to or from exam rooms.

Provide assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures.

Operate mobile x-ray equipment.

Coordinate work of other technicians or clinical staff when procedures require more than one person.

Collect and maintain records of patients examined, examinations performed, patient medical histories, views taken, or technical factors used.

Sanitize and clean equipment to assure that sterile or non-sterile supplies, such as contrast materials, catheters, films, chemicals, or other required equipment, are present and in working order or requisition materials.

Complete quality control activities, monitor equipment operation, and report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.

Maintain a current file of examination protocols as approved by Medical Director and within the guidelines of the Medical Staff bylaws.

Perform general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, or pulling and filing films.

Assist with on-the-job training of new employees or students or provide input to supervisors regarding training performance.

Monitor patients' vital signs and notify provider or nurse of any relevant changes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment producing radiographic images.

Associate Degree in Radiological Science from an accredited college or university preferred.

Current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Radiologic Technician from a state or the District of Columbia.

Must be registered/certified with American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Radiologic Technology.

Current CPR certification.

Knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology.
Knowledge of radiologic practices and techniques.

Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Skill in the technical operation, proper maintenance & performance of radiology equipment.
Ability to evaluate appropriate diagnostic information and communicate this information to the ordering provider.
Ability to integrate diagnostic x-rays, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary.
Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic information in each exam performed.
Ability to maintain continuing education to enhance growth.
Ability to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations.
Ability to work on a regularly assigned or rotational basis to provide continuity of services.
Ability to move heavy equipment on wheels, patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
