Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) – Mission Ready Reserve Counselor

Leidos is hiring licensed behavioral health professionals to join our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) program as Mission Ready Reserve counselors to support Cannon AFB, NM. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide preventive non‑medical counseling, consultation, and outreach to military families.

• Face‑to‑face counseling to military service members and their families (individual, couples, family, and children).
• Visibility at assignment, supporting military‑connected students, parents, and staff.
• Recommending appropriate referrals and handoffs to military and community resources based on clinical assessment.
• Offering presentations on social skills development and social‑emotional learning for children.
• Promoting creativity and positivity through approved materials.
• Building rapport with service members, spouses, and children by attending installation and community events.
• Helping children with transition adjustments, such as a new school and new home.
• Participating in regular in‑service training or other contract activities as assigned.
• Communicating information regarding trends and issues at assigned installation to Team Leads.
• Responding to emergent situations at any physical location on a military installation.
• Traversing long distances to indoor and outdoor locations in varied environments (e.g., rugged terrain, indoor/outdoor weather).
• Traveling to locations outside of a military base as required.
• Complying with site‑specific requirements for designated locations.

Duties are performed in multiple indoor locations (approximately 60%) and outdoor locations (approximately 40%). Indoor locations include military installations, school settings, or child development center settings controlled by the Department of Defense. Outdoor locations frequently involve traversing uneven grassy, gravel, or dirt areas, ascending or descending stairs, and exposure to weather. The role may involve sitting on the floor to interact with children for up to two hours at a time.

Under the National Defense Authorization Act, licensed MFLCs may provide non‑medical counseling services to military families at any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or any U.S. territory or possession, regardless of the state in which the counselor is licensed. Within the scope of the MFLC program, any independent and clinical license recognized by the Secretary of Defense as appropriate may be held.

• A master’s degree or higher in the behavioral health professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
• A valid independent license in the mental health field from any U.S. state or territory (LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to pass a basic background check, a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.
