What Your Job Will Be Like

We are looking for a talented and experienced R&D Systems Research Analysis to enhance our analytical capabilities and drive data-based decision-making.

In this role you will engage with stakeholders across Sandia Labs at various organizational levels to advance our Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities in performance analysis, data automation, and predictive analysis. Your responsibilities include creating intelligent algorithms, models, and tools that tackle tasks such as natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, and predictive analytics. You will be involved in research, development, deployment, and providing in-depth technical support for scientific software, application software, data mining, machine learning, and data analytics.

You will also integrate AI models into larger systems and applications.

• Design, develop, and implement AI systems and software that support laboratory-wide operational applications.
• Create intelligent algorithms, models, and tools for tasks such as natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
• Conduct research, development, deployment, and provide technical support for scientific and application software, data mining, machine learning, and data analytics to solve specific engineering and operational challenges.
• Collaborate across multiple functional areas to design and implement innovative AI/ML solutions that address complex problems.
• Build, modify, and maintain databases and database management systems to empower leadership with actionable insights into organizational performance.
• Identify opportunities to enhance analytical capabilities and develop strategic plans to implement recommended improvements.
• Integrate AI models into larger systems and applications to improve overall system functionality and scalability.
• Communicate effectively and persuasively with leadership through presentations, written analyses, concise reports, and data visualizations.

$102,400 – $199,700

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.

• Graduate degree in a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., thesis or dissertation).
• Ability to understand, synthesize, and draw insights from multiple types of data streams (technical, economic, policy) through the use of analytical tools.
• Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams examining complex systems.
• Knowledge of fundamentals of good project management as it pertains to federally-funded work (proposal development through award review, final delivery, and closeout).
• Experience working with federal sponsors in the defense and intelligence sectors, and their domestic/foreign partners.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams delivering critical information to customers succinctly.
• Experience with database management systems such as Oracle, Hive, Mongo
  
  DB, Hadoop.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis languages and object-oriented development software such as Python, R, JMP, MLflow, Matlab.
• Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning libraries (Tensor Flow, PyTorch, Keras, scikit-learn) and natural language processing frameworks.
• Ability to identify business problems or management objectives that can be addressed through data analysis.
• Critical thinking, synthesis, and analytical skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate AI/ML analyses to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to track, analyze, and identify trends in data and provide effective solutions.
