Deb Haaland for Governor of New Mexico is seeking an experienced, organized and passionate team player to serve as a Press Secretary or Deputy Communications Director (title and role commensurate with experience) on our Communications team for the 2026 cycle. This full‑time, in‑person position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and reports to the Communications Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Build and maintain relationships with national and in‑state reporters, regularly checking in to keep them informed on the state of the race
- Pitch stories, interviews, and events to state and national media
- Support interview preparation for the Principal(s) and responding to inquiries for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor candidates
- Plan and manage communication strategy for major announcements, media rollouts, and events
- Build and maintain relationships with content creators, influencers, and digital partners to expand the campaign’s reach and engagement
- Help draft press releases, media advisories, talking points, and other external communications
- Assist with other communications duties as needed
- Other responsibilities as designated
- 2–3 cycles in a communications role for a campaign, organization, or PAC
- Proven ability to write, edit, and proofread materials
- Experience pitching and shaping stories to state and national press
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel throughout New Mexico
- Campaign or political experience is preferred
- Access to a car and valid driver’s license
- Spanish‑speaking or ties to New Mexico a plus
