Intern, Business Undergraduate Summer - Technology and Economic Development, OnsiteWe are seeking a Summer - Business Undergraduate Intern to support our statewide efforts in technology-based economic development. This role will focus on strengthening industry and academic partnerships that accelerate the transition of advanced technologies from research into real-world impact. The intern will work alongside a small, highly collaborative team engaged in sectors critical to New Mexico's innovation economy.
This internship offers exposure to how research institutions, industry partners, startups, universities, and state agencies collaborate to build innovation ecosystems and grow regional technology economies.
As a summer intern, you will support a range of activities related to partnership development, program execution, and ecosystem analysis, including:
Assisting with research and mapping of industry, academic, and government partners across key technology sectors
Supporting the development of briefing materials, slide decks, and written summaries for internal and external stakeholders
Helping track and organize partnership activities, events, and ongoing initiatives
Conducting background research on emerging technologies, companies, and academic programs in aerospace, defense, quantum, and advanced energy
Assisting with planning and coordination for meetings, workshops, or convenings with partners across the state
Contributing to drafting short write-ups, summaries, or success stories highlighting innovation and collaboration efforts
Providing general project and administrative support as needed to help advance statewide technology and economic development initiatives
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited related undergraduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.
Note:
If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
Qualifications We Desire:
Undergraduate or graduate student in economics, public policy, engineering, business, science, or a related field
Interest in technology commercialization, innovation ecosystems, or economic development
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable conducting research and synthesizing information into clear summaries
Curious, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team
