DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage
FLSA STATUS: This is a full-time or part-time, hourly, non-exempt position
JOB PURPOSE: To bartend and meet customers’ needs while observing legal limit of alcohol consumption.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Greets customers and takes orders. Handles all customer requests and complaints promptly and in a courteous manner
- Mixes and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to customers following standard recipes.
- Mixes ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks. Serves wine and draught or bottled beer. Slice and pit fruit for garnishing drinks.
- Maintains bank in accordance with banking procedures. Signs, counts, and balances bank. Collects money for drinks and gives change,
- Informs supervisors of potential “cut-offs”, i.e. customers that exceed the legal limit of alcohol consumption
- Informs management of liquor and supply needs
- Places bottled goods and glasses to make attractive display
- Keeps bar area clean and includes sweeping, wiping down counter tops, beer towers, sink areas, reach-in coolers and cupboards, trash removal, and breaks down empty boxes. May be required to mop back hallway
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older
- PPABC Liquor Certification or successful completion of the PPABC Liquor Certification course
- Knowledge, ability, and skill in mixing a variety of alcoholic beverages
- Good verbal communication and customer relations skills
- Ability to handle a variety of customer requests and personalities with ease and confidence
- Must be people oriented
- Good knowledge of New Mexico state laws pertaining to liquor consumption
- Basic math skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of (6) months bartending experience; one (1) year bartending experience preferred
- Bar/casino setting. Shift work required. Required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Standing/Walking, 100%
- Lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs.
- Exposure to cigarette smoke and noise.
- Exposure to some cleaning chemicals
- Must follow safety precautions and requirements
