Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance
Under direct supervision of the Road Maintenance Foreman, performs a variety of duties related to routine road maintenance, repair, and safety improvements.

NATURE OF WORK ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Regular street sweeping to remove dirt and debris from paved surfaces, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
- Clean and maintain drainage culverts, catch basins, inlets, and other drainage structures.
- Regular mowing to clean and maintain right-of-way including removal of trash and weeds. Prune trees and brush.
- Assist with effective snow and ice removal as necessary.
- Machine blade earth and gravel type road surfaces. Re-shape, recondition, and clean roadway surfaces, slopes, and ditches to improve grading and drainage.
- Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in road, site or highway construction and paving.
- Assist with emergency repairs to roads, bridges, and transportation facilities due to washouts, flood damage, or other causes.
- Place and maintain permanent, temporary, and emergency warning or regulatory signs, barricades and other traffic control devices as required to provide for the safety of the general public.
- Inspect roadways during routine maintenance. All obstacles within the right-of-way that are potentially hazardous to the traveling public shall be removed immediately. Such obstacles include fallen trees, brush, trash, dead animals, unauthorized signs, guy wires, and anything else that may be hazardous.
- Install and maintain the new address street signs.
- Clean, restore, and secure the road maintenance yard into an operational facility.
- Assist with maintaining department equipment and vehicles.
- Maintains repair and service schedules.
- Conducts other routine maintenance as assigned.
- Takes responsibility for assigned hardware items, tools, equipment, and materials utilized to perform maintenance repairs.
- Inspects equipment and tools for defects; performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Refers major repairs to Road Maintenance Foreman.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments in a safe and efficient manner.
- Responds to service calls after regular working hours.
- Observes safety rules, and ensures and maintains a safe environment.
- Attends training classes and seminars on safety, first aid, equipment/machinery operation, and related topics to maintain and enhance job knowledge.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles. Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions.
- Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in street and road construction work.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Knowledge of use of maintenance tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to prepare and maintain work orders.
- Ability to use hand tools, electrical tools, and lawn maintenance equipment.
- Ability and willingness to learn theory and principles, and to become certified in a variety of building trades.
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results.
- Skill in the safe operation of power tools and shop equipment.
- Skill in diagnosing and repair of equipment utilized.
- Skill in reading blueprints and drawings.
