Tool and Die Maker

About the Role

This role is an hourly position. We are seeking a skilled tool and die maker to craft dies, mold components, metal tools, and repair molds/dies for our manufacturing facility. In this role, you will interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, assemble completed parts, and repair dies or molds in a work bay or on equipment.

• Work using safe procedures and practices: report any unsafe or hazardous conditions to supervision and take safety precautions to protect yourself and others.
• Use all designated safety equipment, observe all safety rules, and follow recognized rules of safe practice. Implement 5S.
• Read and interpret blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings.
• Visualize and compute metal shapes and tolerances.
• Design jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts.
• Measure and mark metal stock for machining.
• Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes.
• Perform productive maintenance inspections and repairs.
• Engage in welding and metal fabrication activities including layout, cutting, bending, drilling, punching, and machining.
• Work effectively with peers to share knowledge and leverage strengths.
• Utilize excellent communication and documentation skills to transfer critical processes and support knowledge to others.
• Set up machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
• Cut and shape blocks to specified dimensions.
• Fill, grind, and shim metals to ensure a smooth finish.
• Fit and assemble tools and die parts.
• Inspect finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
• Conduct test runs with completed tools and dies or molds.
• Participate in World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects and assist in improving machine, die, and mold OEE.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Tool and Die Journeyman’s card or equivalent tool and die work experience.

• Associate’s degree in technical studies with 4 years of manufacturing tool and die experience.
• Able to stand for a long duration of time, in excess of 8 hours a day.
• Able to bend over and rotate body repeatedly.
• Able to lift 50 pounds floor to waist.
• Experience working as a tool and die maker.
• In-depth knowledge of machine tools and their uses.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics.
• Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and operate large machinery.
• Experience with quality control analysis.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Google Suite knowledge.
• Possession of a PVO license (training provided onsite).
• Industrial Health & Safety, Confined Space, and Lockout-Tagout training.
• WCM methodologies, particularly 5S, Visual Management, Problem Solving, and Mistake Proofing.
