Maintenance Technician – Food Manufacturing

Hire Up Staffing is partnering with an established food manufacturing company in Coalinga, CA to hire an experienced Maintenance Technician. This is a direct opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing operation and play an important role in keeping production and packaging equipment running safely and efficiently. We are considering technicians at varying experience levels. Candidates with advanced electrical, PLC, industrial maintenance, or food manufacturing experience may be considered above the posted $30/hour range based on experience.

Position

Summary

The Maintenance Technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment improvements throughout the manufacturing facility. This position works closely with Maintenance and Production to minimize downtime and ensure machinery operates safely and reliably. We're looking for someone who can do more than replace parts—the ideal candidate understands industrial equipment and can diagnose the root cause of mechanical and electrical problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on manufacturing and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems up to 480V.
  • Diagnose issues involving motors, pumps, gearboxes, VFDs, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs as needed.
  • Clean, lubricate, inspect, repair, and replace machine components.
  • Identify worn or damaged components before equipment failure occurs.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and work efficiently to minimize production downtime.
  • Document repairs, parts used, maintenance performed, and equipment conditions through the maintenance work order system.
  • Maintain replacement parts, tools, supplies, and organized maintenance work areas.
  • Coordinate with Production and Maintenance leadership when scheduling repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with equipment modifications, new product start-ups, test runs, and equipment adjustments.
  • Work with outside vendors and contractors when necessary.
  • Follow all facility safety procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety requirements, and PPE standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and overall plant efficiency.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing 480V electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of VFDs, motors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Welding and fabrication abilities.
  • Ability to safely and correctly use hand and power tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify the root cause of equipment problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple maintenance priorities and work orders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Production, vendors, and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a maintenance team.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary to support production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous maintenance experience within food manufacturing, food processing, packaging, agriculture, or a similar production environment.
  • Vocational, technical, or trade-school training in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or a related field.
  • Advanced PLC, electrical, automation, or controls experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience mentoring or training less-experienced maintenance technicians.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical, vocational, electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance coursework is preferred.
Physical &

Work Environment Requirements
  • Regularly stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift.
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work safely around industrial machinery and electrical equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors as needed, including environments with hot or cold temperatures, noise, and dusty conditions.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Compensation $24–$30/hour, depending on experience. Candidates bringing particularly strong experience in industrial electrical systems, PLCs, automation, troubleshooting, or food manufacturing maintenance may be considered at a higher hourly rate.
